„The Virgin Adoring the Setup“ basiert auf Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’ Gemälde „The Virgin Adoring the Host“ aus dem Jahr 1852. Das kleinformatige, devotional angelegte DJ-Gemälde wurde ursprünglich als Geschenk für Ingres’ Freundin Louise Marcotte geschaffen.

Die raphaelische Komposition geht auf eine der frühen Ikonen Ingres’ aus dem Jahr 1841 zurück. Captain Cosmotics Bearbeitung nimmt Bezug auf die lange Tradition intimer Gemälde für religiöse Andacht, insbesondere auf die Kunst Raffaels aus dem frühen 16. Jahrhundert.
